projects and goals

An update of goals:

current (1.1)

Progress noted and revised from the previous set of goals. The rationales behind these goals are located in below, as version 1.0

gift giving – Given out several gifts Next steps: Continue to deliver/mail out the remaining gifts. deadline – none

graphic design -

— certification: UCLA Extension Certification of Graphic Design. At the moment, I am at risk of not finishing within 5 years of starting classes. I care less about the grade than what I can learn from the classes, and I have gotten a great deal of guidance from them. Next steps : decide whether to pursue certification, take online course during winter session, see if these units would count towards my pay scale. status – researching, two classes passed; deadline – 5 years from Fall 2009 quarter

— curriculum: me vs the UC A-G requirement. This has been especially difficult, as I’ve been given the run around by three departments on campus. This has the most weight, and the least done… Next steps: Sit down with a calendar and my laptop, and write out the curriculum!! Also, find the ROP teacher who has taught it, as it seems that this is where the class belongs in the grand, complex landscape of school politics status – !!!; deadline – this month

clearing my office – I no longer have an office, but I do have plenty of stuff…still.

— book donation: I’ve given my old Japanese 1 tapes to the Japanese teacher, and many of my readers are in bags ready to be turned into fuel Next steps: donate them to local libraries, colleagues, etc. deadline – none

— paper conversion: my 4 boxes have reduced to 2! Next steps: scan and turn them into PDFs, continue to let go. deadline – none

— equipment: I have used the speakers, which have been great, but as of now, I have no room to install further equipment Next steps: none…unless I move them over to my classroom. deadline – none

— curriculum folders: organize, organize, organize, organize… Next steps: review thoroughly around winter break. deadline – none

comic – didn’t even touch it this summer…it was not the proper time to deal with it Next steps: At this point, it’s buying a netbook so that I can actually access my scans. status – blue pencil, delayed; deadline – undecided

volunteering/donating – Donating to several causes. When I can volunteer my time, it will probably mean that I am making progress.

new

bridesmaid – I’m going to be working on various projects for my friend’s wedding!! Exciting stuff! Next steps: paper and ink tests during Thanksgiving break

clothing to wear – I’ve already begun this. At some time, I managed to accumulate a lot of clothing, more than I have room to store. My goal for this is to simply not buy clothing unless absolutely necessary, to donate what is no longer appropriate for my age, and to recycle clothing that is not fit to be worn Next steps: Go over my wardrobe during Thanksgiving break

on the side

biking – status – sitting in the dining room, gathering dust. Next steps: practice riding around the neighborhood.

Bill – still the same. Next steps: Set up an appointment at the vet for a check-up. status – content

cooking – I don’t have my own kitchen at the moment.

Explanations of projects and goals…record keeping. Rationales are nice, and cathartic.

version 1.0

gift giving – I give gifts. It’s something that I do. If something rings a bell in that crazy head of mine and reminds me of someone, their likes and quirks, chances are that I’ll purchase it. I know that there’s an equivalency law, somewhere, out there, in society. It makes gift giving complicated, political, questionable. Are there ulterior motives? Sometimes, I feel it too. But since a gift is, by definition, altruistic, I don’t expect anything in return…which is a difficult aspect to accept, I’m sure. Task: Over the years, I’ve collected a multitude of presents for other people, but I’ve lacked the courage and get-’er-done attitude to actually deliver/mail out those gifts. status – periodic; deadline – by the time I move

graphic design – I like font. It’s about time I did something about it.

— certification: UCLA Extension Certification of Graphic Design. Pros are that I can work towards a possible other career, gain the confidence and skills necessary to teach a graphic design course, and actually work on something fulfilling. Cons are that I would be back at school, driving to UCLA, only be able to take courses during the summer, and would be spending a lot of money…money that I could use on something like…a house. Task: decide what to do, see if these units would count towards my pay scale. status – researching, one class taken; deadline – 5 years from Fall 2009 quarter

— curriculum: me vs the UC A-G requirement. Task: I need to put out 2 years of curriculum, for a beginning Graphic Design course and an advanced Graphic Design course, to save the Yearbook program. status – researching, collecting curriculum, pending review; deadline – October

clearing my office – clearing the clutter that is my life, organizing, simplifying, making things fit so that I have a viable workspace, while I still have it.

— book donation: I still books from UNDERGRAD. Task: donate them to local libraries, colleagues, paper recycling programs (the readers…). status – periodic; deadline – by the time I move

— paper conversion: I have 4 boxes of papers. They’re heavy. Task: scan and turn them into PDFs. status – periodic; deadline – by the time I move, or by the end of summer

— equipment: I have a monitor, speakers, etc. and they are all collecting dust. Task: clear enough space to actually use it. status – periodic; deadline – spring break

— curriculum folders: office at work. My curriculum is stored in 3-ring binders, that are currently in disarray and in need of updating. Task: sort handouts and update curriculum. status – periodic; deadline – by the end of summer

comic – yeah…I started it and never finished. Task: It’s about time to get it done and move on. status – blue pencil, delayed until summer; deadline – by the end of summer

volunteering/donating – These things will come and go. I want it to be a priority this year, but I haven’t decided what to do. Planting trees? Tutoring? Causes? status – research, periodic; deadline – none

on the side

bikingstatus – still stationary, but in use

Bill – my cat. Task: Set up an appointment at the vet for a check-up. status – content

cooking – time to use the cooking supplies I own…especially bread. Lots of bread. status – periodic

discontinued

guitar/piano/drums

not considered

photography – I am not a photographer.

family – this is too personal, so I’m not going to write anything specific about family. status – living

relationships – also falls into the “too personal” category. Another thing, I don’t want to make any sort of goals here, because the goals here are for me; I’m not going to impose my goals on other people…except for gift giving, which has a “no strings attached” clause.
